Celebrate the Sesquicentennial Anniversary

After first opening its doors September 26, 1871, Palmer House, a Hilton Hotel celebrates its 150th anniversary on December 8th, National Brownie Day, with an open house event, inviting guests to explore the hotel’s collection of prized artifacts and learn about its deep-rooted history in Chicago while enjoying the chocolate fudge confection treat, the brownie, invented at the hotel.

The lobby will be open to the public at 11:00am on December 8th to celebrate this momentous occasion.

In celebration of the 150th anniversary, Palmer House has curated activations and packages throughout the year for you to enjoy, including:

150th Celebration Activations

  • Fudge It – It’s Friday at Five: Every first Friday of the month, beginning on October 01, 2021 Lockwood Lobby Bar will host a 150-minute Brownie Happy Hour, offering each guest who purchases a 150th themed cocktail, a complimentary brownie.
  • If These Walls Could Talk Self-Guided Engage & Explore Tour, and discover lesser-known facts and fun that make for Instagram-able moments. Complete the challenge, share photos from the tour with the front desk for a chance to win the gift of the month.
  • Sesquicentennial Magic Parlour Package including tickets for two adults, overnight accommodations and two 1871 cocktails.
  • Sesquicentennial Splash Package which is perfect for families, thanks to a room close to the new $2.2M renovated swimming pool and a food and beverage credit to Lockwood Express.
  • Curated Spa Menu Celebrating Palmer House & The Palmers with unique treatments like the Red Lacquer Manicure and Honoré Hydro-tub Therapy.
  • Sesquicentennial Wedding Package with the special couple dining on Bertha Palmer’s china, valued at $30,000 per place setting, used at the “Greatest Banquet in American History” honoring Ulysses S. Grant.
  • Proclamation Ceremony & Celebration to commence on National Brownie Day, Wednesday, December 8th at 11:00am in the Lobby.
  • Andersen Pen, located in the arcade level of the hotel, has teamed up with Retro 51’s design team to create a pen inspired by the art & architecture of the Tiffany Peacock doors located at the Palmer House Hilton’s Monroe Street entrance.  The rollerball pen is an Andersen Pen exclusive, aptly named Palmer.  Learn More
